If you are a Geography/6th grade teacher and are interested in the possibility of taking your class to a Smithsonian space exhibit at the Neville Public Museum in Green Bay, the museum would like to hear from you. According to Matt Welter, Curator of Education at the Neville Public Museum, the museum is applying for a SITES Grant from the Smithsonian. The grant is for helping promote educational programs for its exhibit, Earth From Space (http://www.earthfromspace.si.edu/), which will be at the Neville Public Museum from January 9 through March 7, 2010.
The normal cost of admission is $1 per person for school groups that visit. However, if the museum does get the grant, it will be able to provide up to $150 toward school buses for up to 15 schools, and admission for up to 80 people per school group.
Welter said the museum will know by the first week of December whether it received the grant and how much will be funded.
In the meantime, he asks that if your school would like to be included on a list of schools that could come under these conditions that you e-mail him at Welter_MT@co.brown.wi.us, answering these questions:
- How many students would you be able to bring:?
- Would your school be able to come if the amount for buses exceeds $150?
- Would your school be able to come if the number of admissions exceeds 80?
- How many miles is it from your school to the museum?
- Would you still be interested in bringing your class if the museum does not get the grant?
Please note that filling out this survey does not guarantee selection. Welter said the museum's goal is to get as many students to see this exhibit as possible. As soon as the museum knows whether it received the grant, it will be recontacting teachers to see if they are still interested.
