Governor Doyle's Wisconsin Covenant program kicks off May 10-11 when 8th graders throughout the state will sign the covenant that is their pathway to college.

Under the governor's plan, which is funded in his 2007-09 state budget plan, students will be guaranteed a spot in a Wisconsin college or university if they sign a pledge and succeed in earning a high school diploma, participating in their community, taking a high school curriculum that prepares them for higher education, maintaining a B average in high school, and applying in a timely manner for state and federal financial aid.

Covenant Day events will be taking place on college campuses across the state. In addition to participating in a "pep rally," students will get a firsthand look of one of Wisconsin's great post-secondary campuses.  Governor Doyle and First Lady Jessica Doyle will participate in many of the events by teleconference.

Registration is required, and participation may be limited at some campuses due to space limitations.

Covenant Day events are taking place at Lawrence University in Appleton, Madison Area Technical College, Nicolet Area Technical College in Rhinelander, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, UW-Superior, Beloit College, Gateway Technical College in Racine, Northcentral Technical College in Wausau, UW-Eau Claire, and Viterbo College in La Crosse.

For more information and to register online, go to the Wisconsin Covenant Web site.
