Burmaster Wins 61% of Primary Election Vote

State Superintendent Elizabeth Burmaster and Deputy State Superintendent
Tony Evers celebrate Burmaster’s victory inTuesday's primary election.

State Superintendent Elizabeth Burmaster captured 61% of the vote in the four-way primary election for state superintendent on Tuesday (February 15, 2005). State Rep. Gregg Underheim came in second, with 26% of the vote. They will face off in the April 5 General Election.

Burmaster said she was humbled by the victory and asked her supporters to work hard to ensure a General Election victory.

“It’s clear that the people of Wisconsin support the work I have done as state superintendent to ensure a quality education for every child. They want small class sizes. They want quality early learning through 4-year-old kindergarten. They want to close the achievement gap. And they believe the state should meet its funding commitment for public education, so we can give our schools the resources they need and provide property taxpayers with the relief they deserve,” she said.

Burmaster said she will “continue taking my message and my record of accomplishments to voters throughout the state. We’ve made great progress over the past four years, and I would be honored to continue serving the people of Wisconsin as their state superintendent.”
