Student WEA Named Best in Nation
For the second consecutive year, the Student Wisconsin
Education Association was named the best state student program in the
nation during the Student Leadership Conference in New Orleans.
In addition, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point
chapter received two NEA-SP local awards. Diana Spargo, UW-Stevens Point
Latchkey Coordinator (an after-school program organized and run by Student
WEA members), was named Outstanding Local Leader. The UW-Stevens Point
Chapter received the Outstanding Local Excellence Award.
Student WEA members are WEAC members and leaders who
attend both state and private colleges and universities and are studying
to become educators. Student WEA is composed of 1,900 members who are
engaged in various organizing activities at their chapters that benefit
their schools and Wisconsins K-12 public schools and communities.
In addition, they attend professional conferences and engage in leadership
trainings offered throughout the year.
Membership entitles students to WEAC and NEA member
benefits that include receiving NEAs Professional Liability Insurance
and professional publications, including OnWEAC In Print. Student members
also have access to Student WEAs mini-resume service.
Students can join online this year. You will find
links on OnWEAC
and on the NEA's Web site and OWL.org.
