State Students Do Well on 1999 Standardized Tests
Wisconsin students again turned in impressive performances on two sets
of 1999 standardized tests.
Test results were released over the summer for the Wisconsin Reading
Comprehension Test, administered to 3rd graders, and the Wisconsin Knowledge
and Concepts Examinations, administered to 4th, 8th and 10th graders.
Third graders improved their performance from the prior year on the 1999
state reading test given in the spring, with 70.1% of students scoring
proficient or advanced, compared to 64.8% who scored at those top levels
in 1998.
Students in grades 4 and 8 significantly improved their performance from
last year on the WKCE, also given last spring, while 10th graders improved
slightly. The percentage of students scoring proficient and advanced improved
in every grade and every subject area except 10th grade science. State
students scored well above students nationally in every subject.
