Four Named Teachers Of The Year

Teachers from Cambridge, La Crosse, Deerfield and Waunakee are Wisconsin’s 1997 Teachers of the Year.

The four were chosen by a statewide committee from a pool of 88 public school teachers who received Kohl Teacher Fellowships. The winners are:

  • Elementary Teacher of the Year: Mary K. Fahey, Cambridge Elementary School.
  • Middle/Junior High School Teacher of the Year: Kathleen K. Giese of Logan Middle School in La Crosse.
  • High School Teacher of the Year: Carol Banaszynski of Deerfield High School.
  • Special Services Teacher of the Year: Carol R. Bliefield of Waunakee Intermediate School.

Teachers of the Year are chosen for their instructional leadership and ability to inspire and motivate students. One of the four will be selected as Wisconsin’s representative to the National Teacher of the Year program. That announcement is expected next month.
