The Student Wisconsin Education Association celebrated much success at
the Student Leadership Conference this year. Several awards were received
for a year of distinguished efforts.
- 1997-1998 Student State President Sandy Strand was name our nation's
Outstanding State Leader.
- In addition, the 1997-1998 Student Educator, Wisconsin's student newsletter
led by Editor Curtis Fuller, was recognized as this year's Outstanding

- The Wisconsin student program also proudly received an award for having
registered several extraordinary C.L.A.S.S. (Community Learning through
America'S Schools) grant projects. Projects have been implemented by
local Student WEA chapters across the state.
To help student chapters develop programs that benefit school children
in the community, the NEA awards up to $1000 in grant monies.
The students arrived in New Orleans last Thursday to participate in the
Student Leadership Conference. The Conference is sponsored by the NEA
Student Program to train its new leaders.
More than 100 students from across the country participated in the conference.
Eight current student leaders from Wisconsin and three former student
leaders participated in this event.
