Budget impasse broken

Now that the impasse over the state budget appears to be broken, legislators are nearing final action on the $37 billion spending plan. WEAC board members and leaders are coming to Madison this week to meet with leading lawmakers and deliver a pro-education message. The Assembly is expected to debate the budget September 10 and send it to the Senate. A conference committee will then iron out the final details of the budget before it goes to the governor.

Wisconsin again tops on college entrance exams

Wisconsin once again leads the nation on college entrance exams. Wisconsin students had their highest ACT scores ever in 1997, with the highest scores of all states where the test is the predominant college entrance exam. Wisconsin was also in the top handful on the SAT exam. About 7% of Wisconsin students take the SAT, and 64% took the ACT this year.
