Public school choice could affect bargaining

The public school choice program approved in the recently-enacted state budget could have repercussions for education employee contracts. WEAC Executive Director Don Krahn said the Legislature is expected to act on a trailer bill, filling in some details omitted from the budget bill. Krahn said districts must adopt rules to implement the new law, and some could affect bargaining, for example changes to layoff requirements.

School Stories features Milwaukee

A national television program features Milwaukee Public Schools November 9. “School Stories” on The Learning Channel is highlighting MPS’ success with its high school graduation test. The name of the episode is “High Stakes Testing” and runs at 9 a.m. November 9. Copies of the tape will be available from WEAC’s Communications Division.
