Governor Doyle will host inaugural events throughout the state on Tuesday, January 2, leading up to the swearing-in ceremony and Inaugural Ball in Madison on Wednesday, January 3. The governor will appear in Milwaukee, Superior, La Crosse and Beloit; and Lieutenant Governor Barbara Lawton will appear in Green Bay, Eau Claire and Wausau. The events are free and open to the public, and people can RSVP online.

The Inaugural Committee has opened a Web site at www.inauguration2007.com.

The governor has chosen to plan inaugural events as a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Clubs in Wisconsin. By working with the Boys & Girls Clubs throughout Wisconsin and other sponsors, a variety of free and affordably-priced events will be open to everyone, while also directly benefiting youth programs throughout the state.

The inaugural events include:

Tuesday, January 2, 2007

  • Governor Doyle and Lieutenant Governor Barbara Lawton will visit the cities listed above. At each city, he will hold community-focused activities intended to invite as many citizens as possible to partake in the inauguration festivities. Children from the Boys and Girls Club will participate in some capacity at all the events.

Wednesday, January 3, 2007

  • Inaugural Breakfast: Governor Doyle will host a breakfast for those who would like to kick off Inauguration Day with a celebration of Wisconsin’s heritage and diversity. • Swearing-In Ceremony: Governor Doyle and other constitutional agents will be sworn into office in the Capitol Rotunda at noon. Seating is limited and will be by invitation only. There is some standing room for members of the public to view the ceremony.
  • Public Welcome Reception: Governor Doyle and Mrs. Doyle will greet members of the public in the Governor’s Conference Room immediately following the swearing-in ceremony. All are welcome.
  • Sponsor’s Cocktail Reception: All corporate contributors will be invited to an informal cocktail reception. The Boys and Girls Club will use the opportunity to thank sponsors and talk briefly about Boys and Girls Club activities statewide.
