Senate OKs School Technology Bill

A bill approved by the State Senate Tuesday (October 16, 2001) would help school districts improve technology and provide opportunities for placing telephones in classrooms throughout Wisconsin.

Senate Bill 244 would allow districts to use Technology for Educational Achievement (TEACH) block grants to provide classrooms with access to telephone service.

The bill, which includes an option for wireless service, is part of WEAC’s Legislative Agenda.

“Telephones are essential in today’s classroom,” WEAC President Stan Johnson said. “Telephone access ensures safety in case of emergencies. This issue is important for teachers and support staff throughout the state.”

The bill now moves to the Assembly for consideration.
