Education bills supported by WEAC were signed into law recently. They include:

  • AB 100: Increases legal protection for teachers who use reasonable force to maintain order in a classroom.
  • SB 136: Requires insurance companies to cover immunizations for children up to the age of 6.
  • SB 241: Establishes new qualification requirements for at-risk programs
  • AB 764: Requires driver’s education courses to include instruction on organ and tissue donation.
  • AB 714: Protects school employees from civil liability for administering epinephrine auto-injectors to pupils.
  • AB 447: Allows school boards to reinstate expelled students earlier than scheduled under certain circumstances.
  • AB 545: Creates a leave of absence for state employees to donate organs or bone marrow.
  • AB 629: Creates a loan program for teachers of visually impaired persons.

WEAC’s Board of Directors has approved a new Legislative Agenda. WEAC will use the agenda as a basis for recommending candidates in the fall elections. WEAC will also work to get the agenda items introduced and passed in the next legislative session.
