Legislators Unveil Bill to Strengthen Family and Medical Leave Law
Two legislators are proposing a bill that would allow parents to leave
work for up to 16 hours a year to attend their childrens school
activities.
The proposal by Sen. Richard Grobschmidt of South Milwaukee and Rep.
Spencer Black of Madison creates a new type of leave under the state
Family and Medical Leave Act. It would allow parents to use unpaid time
off to attend school events such as parent-teacher conferences, classroom
visits and their children's extracurricular activities.
The time off would be unpaid unless the parent had paid vacation or
sick time to use. The proposal would only apply to companies with more
than 50 employees.
WEAC supports the measure.
