WEAC President Betsy Kippers has announced that WEAC has named Bob Baxter the organization’s new executive director.
The WEAC Board of Directors, comprised of elected member representatives from across the state, voted to move ahead with the appointment, moving Baxter from his position as Interim Executive Director into the permanent role. Baxter has been serving in interim capacity since summer, replacing Dan Burkhalter.
In making its decision, the Board points to the stability that will be achieved with Baxter at the helm, noting that he is a proven leader committed to the continued success of WEAC.
Baxter has demonstrated his commitment and skill during his time with WEAC, first as Director of Organizing, later as Interim Executive Director for the Milwaukee Teachers’ Education Association, and then as WEAC Interim Executive Director.
“With his deep knowledge of WEAC operations, priorities and labor issues, the Board considers him an ideal fit as we continue the process to reshape the union in the direction set by members, with a renewed focus on grassroots organizing in local communities,” Kippers said.
Baxter previously was Executive Director for the Kenosha Education Association and has work experience with AFSCME, the Teamsters and Service Employees International Union. His experiences outside of the labor field include service in the U.S. Navy.
