WEAC seeks balanced legislation that makes virtual schools accountable to all stakeholders
WEAC President Mary Bell issued a statement on recent hearings on legislative proposals regarding virtual schools that were introduced in the Senate and Assembly this week.
“Virtual education can play a vital role in today’s great schools, and many WEAC members throughout the state use virtual education technologies in their classrooms every day. WEAC calls upon the Wisconsin Legislature to establish standards for fiscal and academic accountability to the taxpayers, parents and students.
“Virtual schools are fiscally accountable to the taxpayers that fund them. WEAC believes funding for virtual schools should reflect the actual cost of online education. WEAC supports SB 396 because it takes steps to ensure that quality instruction is provided to students, that virtual schools are accountable to taxpayers, that they provide equal access to online learning and that local school districts retain control.”
