Dan Burkhalter: Governor’s budget repair plan
reflects the right priorities
Plan spares public education from further cuts.
WEAC Executive Director Dan Burkhalter applauded Governor Jim Doyle’s plans to address the state’s $652 million budget shortfall today.
Governor Doyle announced today that the state could repair the budget with a hospital assessment, transportation fund transfers, and reductions in executive branch appropriations.
Burkhalter released the following statement:
“Governor Doyle understands that education is the key to economic growth and expansion, and that the schools are the last place the state should look to solve a short-term budget problem. With more than 40 school districts going to referendum next month to override the state’s local school district revenue caps, we can all breathe a little bit easier knowing the governor is standing up for education in his budget repair plan.
“Great schools benefit everyone and our elected officials’ commitment to education now will reap big dividends in the near future.”
