At the Wisconsin Way forum in Eau Claire Thursday night (October 18, 2007), citizens called for tax fairness, efficiency in services and the maintenance of quality government services for the good of all.
According to an article in the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram, one of the key messages delivered by citizens was that "homeowners pay too much in taxes, while corporations don't pay enough."
The article said the meeting room at the Ramada Convention Center had 153 people in attendance - a mix of state and local politicians, school district employees, business owners and area residents.
In the photos above, moderator James B. Wood and Menomonie teacher Jackie Broughton share thoughts.
The forum was among a series of 12 planned throughout the state through December 6 by a coalition of partners who developed the Wisconsin Way. The concept of the Wisconsin Way is to engage Wisconsin citizens in a constructive, solution-oriented conversation about what we can do to make Wisconsin taxes fairer and reduce the property tax burden without sacrificing the quality of public services that have made Wisconsin a special place to live and work.
The key Wisconsin Way coalition partners include WEAC, the Wisconsin Counties Association, the Wisconsin Realtors Association, the Wisconsin Transportation Builders Association, and Wood Communications Group.
On Monday night (October 15, 2007) about 100 citizens packed into a meeting room at the Stoney Creek Inn in Wausau (photo below) to share their ideas for how Wisconsin can tackle its 21st century issues.
