From the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District Web site
Middleton-Cross Plains Area Schools has been selected as one of six school districts in the country to win the 2007 NEA-Saturn/UAW Partnership Award for Teacher Induction Programs.
The Partnership Awards recognize joint efforts by school districts and local associations that together provide high-quality new teacher induction their first two to three years of teaching.
New teachers in the Middleton-Cross Plains Area Schools are paired with a veteran teacher their first two years of teaching. Together, the two teachers attend a mentoring class taught by Director of Professional Development Nancy Wyngaard and Assistant Superintendent George Mavroulis.
Representatives from the school district and the Middleton Education Association (MEA) will receive this honor during the National Education Association (NEA) Board of Directors meeting June 29 in Philadelphia.
In the fall, Saturn/UAW will host one administration and one association representative for a trip to General Motors and UAW headquarters in Michigan. The visit is tentatively scheduled to include a joint GM/UAW tour of a vehicle assembly plant and GM's hydrogen vehicle facility. The visit will also include an after-hours tour of the Detroit Institute of the Arts, including its famous Diego Rivera murals, which are considered by many to be landmark artwork in the history of American labor.
