PHILADELPHIA – The Student Wisconsin Education Association (StWEA) was well-represented at the 2007 NEA Student Leadership Conference on Monday (June 25, 2007), taking home four national awards and receiving 41 honorable nominees.

The awards were presented during the Student Program Honors Banquet. The StWEA received the Outstanding State Affiliate Excellence Award, as well as the Outstanding Class Project Award for its Outreach to Teach 2007 project. See http://www.weac.org/

The Outstanding Local Excellence Award for locals with fewer than 100 members was presented to the Carthage College local, and the Outstanding Local Excellence Award for locals with 101-200 members was presented to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire local.
StWEA representatives attending were Kristen Kovalaske (Carthage College), 2006-2007 state president; Zoua Xiong (UW-Milwaukee), 2007-08 state president; Krystal Schneider (Carthage College), 2006-2007 state public relations coordinator/2007-2008 state president-elect; Dana Schwabenlander (UW-Madison), 2006-2007 state secretary/treasurer; Stacie Ebert (UW-La Crosse), 2007-2008 state vice-president; Gary Cooper (Milwaukee Area Technical College/UW-Milwaukee), 2007-2008 state public relations coordinator; and Nancy Clark (WEAC), StWEA coordinator.
The keynote speaker at the annual banquet was Dennis Van Roekel, vice-president of the NEA.
