Artwork by Milwaukee Public Schools students in kindergarten through grade 12 is displayed on the walls at PyraMax Bank, 318 N. Water St. The work will remain there until late September. The work is part of the MTEA and UWM-sponsored “Celebration of Art,” a special opportunity for students to display their work, and for families to celebrate art achievement.
The show is also an opportunity for art educators in the district to highlight the importance of offering art classes to all students during the school day.
Sue Pezanoski-Browne, one of the co-chairpersons of the MTEA Art Educators Committee, said, “We’re so grateful to PyraMax Bank for lending us their exhibit space. Having our students’ artwork displayed in such a public space will help us send a message to the community about the importance of art education in our public schools.”
The Milwaukee Teachers’ Education Association, affliliated with WEAC, is a labor union representing more than 8,000 teachers and other education professionals in Milwaukee’s public schools.
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Education (SOE) prepares educators to meet the unique social and economic challenges of a multicultural, urban society.
