Louis Lessor, a 3rd-grade teacher at Westside Elementary School in Sun Prairie, has been selected as the state nominee for the prestigious national Award for Teaching Excellence.
Each
state nominates only one person, whose name then is submitted to the
National Foundation for the Improvement of Education. The six national
award winners will receive cash stipends ranging from $10,000 to $25,000.
Lessor, who has taught for 16 years, was chosen on the basis of five criteria: professional practice (especially the use of innovative teaching strategies to ensure that all students achieve at a high level), advocacy for the profession and for public education, involvement in the local community, leadership in professional development, and attention to diversity.
WEAC President Stan Johnson praised Lessors skills and service.
Louis represents the very best of Wisconsins great teachers and staff, and he is what Wisconsins great schools are all about. WEAC is proud to call Louis one of our own and we wish him luck as he represents Wisconsin at the national level, Johnson said.
