The state's first major conference on the highly successful and expanding SAGE class-size reduction program is March 6-7 in Milwaukee.
Participants and potential participants in the Student Achievement Guarantee in Education (SAGE) program will share visions and strategies at the conference, which is sponsored by WEAC.
Representatives of districts now in the program will share their insights and success stories and explain how they overcame challenges as they implemented the program.
The conference, part of WEACs Great Schools initiative, is at the Four Points-Sheraton Hotel in Milwaukee.
The conference will feature workshops on various issues relevant to the SAGE program, including fiscal issues, academic standards, and parental involvement.
WEAC will also unveil a major new project at the conference.
Currently, 78 schools with low-income students in 46 districts participate in SAGE. The Legislature approved a major expansion of the program, making 400 more schools eligible in the 2000-2001 school year.
The March conference is designed to help eligible districts to apply for the program. Current SAGE participants will share their best practices and suggestions for success.
