Elizabeth Burmaster, State Superintendent of Public Schools, Connie Wolf, NBCT, and Jessica Doyle, Wisconsin’s First lady, celebrate National Board Certification at a reception in the Governor’s Mansion in Madison.
Message: I knew nothing about the NBPTS process in 2000 and had only four years of teaching experience, when a colleague and I decided to give this a try. Little did we know how much this rigorous professional development experience would impact our teaching practice. We became the first NBCTs in our school district in 2001. Since then, I have completed a Masters Degree from Alverno College, and have had opportunities to teach several graduate level courses. I have been active in helping to create the Wisconsin National Board Network, WNBN, a statewide support organization, and facilitating NBPTS support workshops throughout the year. I am presently on leave-of-absence from my 3rd-grade teaching position at Benjamin Franklin School in Menomonee Falls in order to promote and support NBPTS. I am fortunate to have this opportunity to pursue something that I feel so passionate about.
