Redgranite Celebrates American Education Week

First-graders from Redgranite Elementary School describe why their school is great to community members that included families, teachers, education support staff, and state and local leaders. The community was celebrating being named a 2008 Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.

Wautoma Area School District's Redgranite Elementary School's gymnasium was a sea of blue when more than 300 students, staff, administration, community leaders and families gathered for the celebration. Redgranite was one of seven Wisconsin schools to be recognized nationally for academic achievement or closing achievement gaps.

"Out of the thousands and thousands of schools in the country, Redgranite Elementary is one of 320 that received the Blue Ribbon School award and considered one of the very best schools in the whole United States," State Rep. Luther Olsen told a crowd of more than 300 who gathered at the school.

Kindergartner Trinity Hoyt and her afterschool program colleagues at Redgranite Elementary School entertain the community with songs. They sang Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama" but changed it to "Sweet Home Redgranite".

An administrator, parents, teachers and Education Support Professionals took a break from cleaning up Redgranite Elementary School’s gymnasium to gather for a photo to celebrate being named a 2008 Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.
