Support Milton Teachers

Representatives of the Turner Education Association, Beloit Education Association, Janesville Education Association, Beloit Secretarial Union and WEAC supported Milton teachers Monday as they protested the school board's unwillingness to settle a 2007-09 contract. About 40 Milton teachers and supporters rallied outside the school district offices and then packed a school board meeting. Among the participants were Shelly Crull-Hanke (left) of the Turner Education Association, Maren Mapp (with JEA sign) of the Janesville Education Association, WEAC Vice President Guy Costello (holding the Negotiate in Good Faith sign), Milton Education Association President Shelly Kress (to the right of Costello), and Milton teacher Dale Langer (far right).

Milton Education Association President Shelly Kress addresses the school board. She said the board has refused to meet with the union. According to the Janesville Gazette, she said the union offered five possible meeting dates in April and asked the board at two meetings to sit down with the union. "They obviously don’t want to talk about it,” Kress said.
