First Lady Jessica Doyle Helps Out at Great Schools Exhibit

Wisconsin First Lady Jessica Doyle and Kyale, a 6th-grade student at Cherokee Heights Middle School in Madison, visit WEAC's Great Schools exhibit at the Wisconsin State Fair in West Allis on Thursday (August 9, 2007). Kyale is a member of Doyle’s Read On Wisconsin, a statewide book club for everyone who enjoys reading and talking about good books. “Kyale reads the books and tells me if he recommends it for the book club,” Doyle said. "Literacy has always been important to me, and we all know that book clubs can be motivating and just plain fun."
"The exhibit is so kid friendly and all the teachers here have so much positive energy," Doyle said. Kippers echoed Doyle's praises: "What was exciting to me was the parents’ interest in our Parent Tip brochures." The brochures include tips on: Reading, Writing, Science & Math, Parent Involvement & Discipline, Pressures & Stress, Goal Setting, Internet Safety, and Motivation. The free resources are available on OnWEAC's Members' Only Web site.

Kippers joins members who volunteered to work at WEAC's Great Schools Exhibit. They are, from left to right, Kippers; Georgia Duesing and Bev Beecher, both of Burlington; Janet Mielke of Marion; and her daughter, Heather Mielke, of Burlington. "It was really exciting to see the 4K children," Duesing said. "They are looking forward to school and this is their first connection to school."

Kippers helps Jordan Crayton, 2, of Milwaukee, color.
