Dan Roesinger, a full-time blacksmith from Rhinelander,
demonstrates blacksmithing techniques for students Jerry Kronschnabel
(center), of Madison, and James Schmitt, of Mount Horeb. Roesinger was
assisting instructor Bill Kaul in the blacksmithing class at the School
of the Arts at Rhinelander this summer.
The School of the Arts at Rhinelander is a multidisciplinary,
hands-on arts program for adults. Each summer more than 300 people gather
for one week of intensive learning and creative activity to learn with
more than 40 instructors. The program is held at the James Williams Junior
High School in Rhinelander. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and university
credit are available. Classes and workshops are offered in art and folk
art; writing; dance, movement and relaxation; music; photography; theatre
and drama; and computer skills.
Many of the students are educators themselves. The School
of the Arts is an opportunity to learn new skills, or brush up on old
ones, in a casual atmosphere. The school is sponsored by the University
of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Liberal Studies and the Arts, which
is a part of the UW-Madison Division of Continuing Studies.
For more information about the annual program, visit
the School of the
Arts Web site.
