Albany teachers Mello Jorgensen (left) and Connie Gregerson meet with
Pam Porter, Governor Doyle's outreach director, in the governor's office
May 8. The teachers came to the Capitol to talk about how the Qualified
Economic Offer law and school district revenue controls are hurting education,
communities, and the teaching profession. Albany teachers recently were
coerced into a contract settlement after the school board threatened to
impose a QEO and require paybacks that in some cases would have exceeded
$3,000. Governor Doyle, who has included repeal of the QEO law in his
budget proposal, and his staff have been very open to hearing from educators.
