On May 7, 1965, the 84 members of the newly formed Kimberly Education Association petitioned the Board of Education of School District No. 6 for recognition as the bargaining agent representing the teachers of the district. The first president of the Kimberly Education Association was Philip Gocker.

On June 3, 1968 Articles of Incorporation were filed with the Secretary of the State of Wisconsin.

In September of 1969 the KEA affiliated with the National Education Association. NEA dues were only $5.00!
