Reclaim Wisconsin. Recall Walker!

After nearly a year of attacks on our profession, historic and devastating cuts to our schools and an extreme agenda dividing our state, now is the time – it’s time to recall Governor Walker.

4 x 10: A plan for success

You know how hurtful Walker’s agenda has been to our profession, our schools and our communities. You’re ready to recall him from office. How do you rally those around you to do the same? Follow The 4 x 10 Program to organize your colleagues to recall Governor Walker:

Collect 10 recall signatures: Download petitions from UnitedWisconsin.com and turn them in on specified days to your local or UniServ. UPDATE: We did it! Thanks to everyone who volunteered in this successful effort. With your help United Wisconsin turned in more than a million signatures to recall Governor Walker!

Donate or raise $10 for the recall effort: After a candidate is ready to run against Governor Walker, donate to that candidate; locals and UniServs will collect donations and provide envelopes. UPDATE: WEAC has recommended Kathleen Falk for governor. Click here for more information.

Reach out to 10 voters (friends, family and neighbors): Spread the word. Those around you should know the importance to you and your community of recalling Governor Walker. Let them know how hurtful Walker has been to Wisconsin.

Give 10 hours of time to help with the effort (actions, events, phone banking, member walks, letter writing, etc.): Attend events, help out with a phone bank, write post cards. Click here for a list of activities in your area.

Raise your voice

Your union colleagues are engaged in historic action across the state to respond to the attacks on our profession and our schools:

Engaging communities: From collecting signatures to reaching out to voters, educators are working through their union to reclaim Wisconsin and recall Governor Walker. These efforts are unprecedented in our state’s history – and show how educators are united in their advocacy for our schools.

Setting the record straight: Governor Walker is hitting the airwaves touting so-called “success stories” of districts that supposedly have been helped by his anti-educator policies. But here’s the truth: A recent survey of school administrators shows that nine of 10 students are in districts where staff has been reduced. That’s going to lead to increased class sizes and less individual attention. That’s not a “success story” by any definition.

We responded by working though our locals and UniServs to engage educators in outreach efforts with their community media – sharing the stories of what’s really happening in our schools.

Help spread the word: Governor Walker’s words don’t tell the whole story. You may be seeing ads on television from Walker’s side featuring the stories of educators. Along with the misleading information Walker’s ads are spreading, know that these anecdotes aren’t representative of what’s happening in the classroom. Walker’s cuts to public education – including the largest cut to state aid since the Great Depression – are affecting students in the classroom. That’s the real story.

Our union worked with educators in districts that were misrepresented by Walker, to get the facts out about his damaging cuts. Educators in Monona Grove gave TV interviews, Kaukauna Education Association members worked to dispel myths told about their situation, and members across the state sent letters to the editor and engaged family and friends in stories of what’s happening in their classrooms.
