How to Help Your Gifted & Talented Child

A gifted child has unique intellectual needs. They require more stimulation and think at a more elevated level. Therefore, it is necessary to provide opportunities that satisfy their growing minds.

Try these suggestions:

Provide new experiences and opportunities for your child to explore and discover.

Stimulate your child's senses.

Listen to your child. Pay close attention to what your child asks. Find out what interests your child has and give guidance on where to find appropriate materials and activities to further the exploration of these interests.

Be prepared to give your child either assistance or time alone-whatever is needed.

Investigate resource agencies that will give you ideas on how to stimulate your child.

Join or form a support group of others who are involved with gifted or talented children.

Let your child make the decisions when faced with new situations.

Get the family into a library habit. Go beyond books to newspapers and magazines.

Expose your child to non-traditional roles and attitudes.

Visit interesting places. Let your child make suggestions of places he or she would like to visit.
