The winners of the 2005 Time Warner Cable
National Teacher Awards participate in a recognition ceremony
in Washington, D.C. |
A group of Wisconsin teachers is receiving recognition at the 16th annual Time Warner Cable National Teacher Awards in Washington, D.C. this month. The teachers submitted classroom projects they developed, which were evaluated by an outside panel of judges including representatives from Time Warner, Cable in the Classroom, Discovery Network, Arts & Entertainment Network, and a middle school teacher.
Linda Wamboldt of West Milwaukee Middle School submitted “Where in West Will the Panther be Next,” a project that involved creating multimedia learning experiences for students to highlight their community.
Jacqueline Pollman, Nancy Docter, and Dawn Bigalk of Cooper Elementary School in Milwaukee created “Presidential Palette,” where students lived the life of a president from candidacy to election, concluding with a president’s place in history.
Carlos Kreibich and Ann Buechel Haack of Elkhart Lake Glenbeulah Middle School submitted “Let’s All Get Along,” allowing students to write their definition of ‘tolerance’ and form groups to consolidate their definitions into one. The students participated in activities to depict the treatment of people in various situations.
Entries were judged for relevance to curriculum, student learning benefits, innovative approaches, program content and quality, and evidence of student involvement.
A recognition ceremony was held June 7 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Washington, D.C. In addition to the ceremony, the 20 recipients of this award will tour the Smithsonian’s Museum of Natural History and will visit their representatives on Capitol Hill before returning home.
