This slide in teacher compensation is endangering the quality of our great schools. Wisconsin needs laws that allow teachers and education support professionals to negotiate fair compensation and fund public schools adequately.
In order
to maintain our high standards in the classroom and continue our
students' success, we must renew support for our public schools. |
Noncompetitive salaries discourage people from entering or staying in the teaching profession. That is an economic fact of life. Teacher pay has declined relative to the cost of living at a time when wages in other professions have exceeded inflation. Great schools depend on great teachers and staff, so policies that drive talented people away from the education profession put our schools at risk.
Our public schools create the skilled and knowledgeable workforce necessary to perform tomorrow’s jobs and help Wisconsin’s economy grow. With great schools to prepare students for the future, communities enjoy higher property values, safer neighborhoods, and stronger local economies. This is how great schools benefit everyone.
In order to maintain our high standards in the classroom and continue our students’ success, we must renew support for our public schools.
