One hundred Wisconsin teachers will receive $1,000 awards for being named Herb Kohl Educational Foundation fellows. Their schools will receive an additional $1,000 grant each. A selection committee chose fellowship recipients based on their ability to inspire a love of learning in students, motivation skills and for their leadership and service inside and outside of the classroom. Fellowship recipients were notified by mail in late February. The Wisconsin Newspaper Association, Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, Wisconsin Council of Religious and Independent Schools and the Cooperative Educational Service Agencies co-sponsor the Kohl fellowship program. U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl established the program in 1990. The foundation has since awarded $4.8 million to Wisconsin educators, students and schools. The 2004 Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Fellowship recipients will take part in a recognition ceremony this spring. They are listed below.
