West Central Education Association member Susan Popelka has been recognized as one of the nation's top 100 educators.
The River Falls High School teacher received the honor from Education's Unsung Heros Awards program, which is sponsored by ING. She's eligible to win up to $25,000.
The award recognizes kindergarten through 12th-grade educators nationwide for their innovative teaching methods, creative educational projects, and ability to make a positive influence on the children they teach.
Susan was chosen because of her innovative project, "Building a Math Lab - One Block at a Time." It is a collection of technology-based materials that present math lessons in interesting and unique ways, and allows students to learn math by using real-world situations.
