Waukesha
West High School is once again the state's champion in the Academic Decathlon
competition.
Waukesha West students won the March 13-14 state finals with a score of 47,465, and earned top points in Essay, Math, Art, Economics, Social Studies and Music. Waukesha's Catholic Memorial team earned second place with 46,880 points, and Pewaukee took third place with 39,235 points.
Waukesha West won last year's national Academic Decathlon championship, and hopes to repeat the win in the 2003 national competition, to be held April 23-26 in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Each Academic Decathlon team consists of nine students, categorized as Varsity, Scholastic or Honors. Three participants must come from each category, which are determined by grade-point average.
