Richard Tobias
|
Tobias has taught general music and chorus in the Maple Dale-Indian Hill School District since 1997. He'll begin his journey in mid-July 2003 with an orientation program in Arkansas before heading to South Africa.
While in South Africa, the Fulbright-Hays recipients will visit the cities of Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. They'll also visit Krugar National Park, the Gandhi Settlement and Robben Island prison where Nelson Mandela was once held.
Tobias will have the opportunity to interact with indigenous people whose heritage is preserved in the art, music, languages and cultures of the region. He'll also have the opportunity to learn more about Africa's geography, environment and cultural history.
Tobias has lived and studied abroad before. In 2001, he received a Fulbright-Memorial Fund award to study in Japan. He also spent a semester in Great Britain through the University Wisconsin-Stevens Point Semester Abroad Program.
