| FEA Executive Board Meeting October 10, 2007 Call to Order: 4:37pm by President Sue Mischler Treasurer’s Report – Sandy J. Checking: $20,209.61 CD: $7,518.20 Money Market: $12,865.51 Negotiations Report – Richard G. Richard G. updated the group on the ongoing committee work. Legislative Report – Linda R. 1. The State Budget is still not settled. Members are encouraged to email their state legislators, encouraging them not to cut funding to schools. 2. Information was shared regarding the Healthy Wisconsin program. 3. Franklin teachers are required by contract to attend the WEAC Teacher’s Convention on Thursday, October 25th. Council 10 Report – Sue M. 1. January 12th, 2008 will be the date for the Southeast Bargaining Conference. Location is TBA. Contact Christine Bachofen if you wish to attend. 2. Healthy Wisconsin: Teachers should be pushing for this. Senators and Congress are hearing from people who are against it, but need to hear from those of us who support it. BRs will provide members with an informational handout. 3. The NEA Midwest Leadership conference will be held on Jan. 18th – 20th, 2008 in Minneapolis, MN. Contact Shorty at the UEP office if you’d like to attend. Grievance Report – Kim T. Kim T. updated the group regarding ongoing grievances. Old Business 1) Library & EAs Questions regarding EAs in libraries was clarified. 2) Math Materials Have been received. 3) Power Teacher Go-To people should be contacted with problems and concerns. 4) Teacher Pre-Session Email Sue Mischler and/or Marguerite Dargewicz with concerns and ideas. 5) Math Materials, Math Classroom Observations, PV Bathrooms, Custodial/EA Hiring, STAR Program, High School Concerns All of these were updated. New Business 1) Future Executive Board Meetings November 14 SWG December 12 (Meeting will only be held if necessary, at a location TBD) January 9 BF February 13 RW March 12 CD April 9 FHS May 14 General Membership Meeting (The Hideaway) June 4 Executive Board Dinner (The Rafters) 2) Placement of New Teachers on Salary Schedule Discussion. 3) Traveling Teachers Traveling teachers need to communicate with their building principals regarding their schedules for Inservice, Parent/Teacher Conferences, etc. They should not be exceeding their 8 hour work day. 4) Unpaid Leave Requests for unpaid leave has been increasing. Criteria will be: a) Must be essential for the teacher to be at the alternate location. b) Leave will be denied if an unpaid leave was approved within the last 3 years. Building Reports BF: Too many new curriculums. Stress levels very high. CD: Too much on plates with Power School training, Technology training, new curriculums. Stress levels very high. FPMS: Ongoing STAR concerns. Computer security concerns. Book Club. Staff are encouraged to respond to survey regarding what can we can eliminate to spend more time teaching and what our district is about. Stress levels very high. FHS: Grad classes/schedule conflicts. Administrator survey question. Traveling Teacher question. Stress levels very high. PV: 4th Grade Concern, Math Training Concerns, Book Reading concern, Computer EA concern, Servicing of reading students concern. RW: Trainings taking teachers out of classroom too much. PLC conerns. Extra Open Houses beyond contracted time. Math Assessment concern. Stress levels very high. SWG: PLC concerns. Stress levels very high. MOTION – Kim T.
