FEA Executive Board Meeting April 18, 2007 Call to Order: 4:30pm by President Richard Gould

Treasurer’s Report – Sandy J. Checking: $16,234.42 CD: $7,499.48 Money Market: $12,597.10

Council 10 Report – Sue M. 1.Budget Report Val Gabriel reviewed the 2007-2008 budget, using a new format recommended by WEAC. Dues increase of 2% consistent with discussions from spring 2006, regarding use of the long-term average. This comes to $5 for teachers and $2.50 for ESP’s. This is to be voted on at our May meeting, so I need the FEA’s response (yes/no).

2. Selection Committee for new Uni-serve Director April 25th (Greenfield HS) The committee will go over resumes and narrow the field. Friday May 11th Meeting w/ candidates (6pm) Saturday May 12th Interviews (8 or 9 am) (Both meetings are at the Airport Four Point Sheraton) We need about 10 members from our district to attend the May 11 & 12th meetings. Names of the participants need to be sent to Council 10 so guidelines can be sent out prior. These participants will be asked to stay after the candidates leave to give their feedback to the committee. A motion was passed to authorize the committee to hire, pending approval of the Leadership board.

3. Dates June 19th Lobby Day in Madison July 31- Aug. 2nd Summer Academy - Appleton Childcare will be provided if you pre-register.

4. NCLB Please e-mail Senator Russ Feingold to thank and support his efforts in making NCLB user friendly.

5.RA Those attending the RA are asked to bring a snack to share at the table. There is a student doing a Literacy Project. Please bring any new or gentle used books you are willing to part with.

Negotiations Report – Richard G. 1. Bargaining meetings are to begin on April 19th for members who need training. 2. The first FEA/District joint meeting will take place on April 26th.

Legislative Report – Linda R. 1. Cyberlobby opportunities: Go to www.weac.org, Members Only, Legislative Action Network. There are many cyberlobby opportunities. This is easy to do, lots of suggestions given, and makes a significant impact in our students’ educational opportunities. 2. Russ Feingold is asking for consideration of reauthorization of NCLB. Suggestion: Email Feingold to thank him for his support for education! (Please go to www.weac.org to read more about these topics.) 3. The WEAC RA will hold elections for President, Vice-President, and Secretary/Treasurer.

Grievance Update – Val G. 1. One grievance is going to the school board on May 30th.

PR Committee – Kim 1. Pleasant View is scheduled to present at the May 23rd School Board meeting. 2. BRs should distribute latest edition of “What Has the FEA Done For Me Lately” . 3. If anyone knows names of members who are award recipients (for any of various awards), please email those names to Kim Trendel by May 9th so we will be able to recognize those members.

Old Business WEAC-RA – FEA attendees are: Richard Gould, Paula Dryer, Sue Shilling, Sue Mischler, Linda Reisen, and Barb Gallagher.

NEA – RA – FEA attendee is Linda Riesen.

PowerSchool – Any members having concerns/questions regarding computer training for PowerSchool should contact their BR.

FEF Breakfast – FEA Officers and Executive Board member attending the Franklin Education Foundation breakfast are: Christine Bachofen, Sandy Jolliff, Richard Gould, Sue Mischler, Jill Roffers, Amanda Pozorski, Jean Mohr, and Jill Polglaze. Kindergarten Math Training – Teachers may bring an existing assessment to the upcoming math training meeting.

Maternity Leave Concern – Teachers on maternity leave should not be working from home.

Art Department Coordinator Duties – Art teachers are not being asked to perform coordinator duties.

New Business School Safety – The School Safety committee will be meeting in May and will be reviewing several policies.

HS All-Star Football Charity Event – 2 FHS students, Jared Buck and Rob Evans, have been selected to participate in an All-Star HS Football game. Participants are fundraising for the Children’s Hospital. MOTION – Kim T. (Tom R. seconded) to donate $400 to Children’s Hospital for the All-Star HS Football Game on behalf of participating players Rob Evans and Jared Buck. PASSED *This donation is being partially funded from the FEA Teacher Appreciation Day fund. Instead of providing our members with some kind of gift, we have been opting to donate to some type of charity. In addition, for this particular donation, the FEA will receive a full-page advertisement in the All-Star HS Football Game program.

FEA 07-08 Budget – Discussion of budget. MOTION – Bonnie K. (Sue M. seconded) to approve the budget. PASSED

FEA Offices/Positions – We have the following elected positions open for next year: President-Elect and Treasurer In addition, we are also looking for someone interested in the TRACE/Greivance Chair. This position is appointed by the President, not elected. Anyone interested in any of these positions should email their names to Christine Bachofen by May 4th.

Building Rep. Elections – Each building should hold an election for Building Representatives for the 07-08 school year. Please get results to Christine Bachofen by May 18th.

Administrators Survey – Richard will be revising the Administrators Survey and more information on that will be available soon.

Building Reports: BF: Report card time concern. CD: None. FP: None. FHS: Allison Shilling is the FEA Scholarship winner for 2007. Senior Health textbook concern. Speech pathologists’ licensing cost concern. PV: Closing day question. RW: Substitute teacher capacity concern. SWG: Medical leave question.
