FEA Executive Board Meeting March 14, 2007 Call to Order: 4:31pm by President Richard Gould

Council 10 Report - Sue M. o Guy Costello spoke on Feb. 20 regarding his qualifications and vision for the WEAC Vice President position. Council 10 is endorsing Guy. Delegates to the R.A. in Madison on April 20 - 21 are encouraged to support Guy Costello. oDonations can be sent to Guy Costello's campaign at: Guy Costello for WEAC Vice-President 1320 Manitowoc Ave. South Milwaukee, WI 53172 o Dan Burkhalter, WEAC Executive Director, spoke about 21st Century Leadership. o Council 10 is aligning its budget with WEAC's system. There will be a 2% increase in dues (translates to $3.00 per year). oApproved $500 of PAC money for Linda Clifford's Supreme Court race. o The Executive Director position has been posted and resume screening will begin on April 25. o Council 10 members voted to suspend the election rules and unanimously elected Nancy Koeckenberg as the Council 10 WEAC Board Rep. and Council 10 Chairperson. Linda Riesen was selected as the Alternate Rep. to the WEAC Board of Directors. Both candidates were running unopposed. o Approved a motion to renew the Wisconsin Citizen Action membership. o Employee Sick Leave Sharing Guidelines for Council 10 professional staff was passed.

Negotiations Report - Richard G. o Negotiations will begin in April, as committee work will be almost completed at that time. o The Survey Committee (Michelle Kanczewski, Erin Krase-Minchk, Barb Miller) is in the process of revising the Negotiations Survey. Any suggestions for revisions or additions should be forwarded to one of these Survey Committee members. o The Elementary Prep Time Committee will also be surveying elementary teachers very soon.

Legislative Report - Linda R. o Linda Clifford is running for Supreme Court. She is a pro-education candidate. The election will be April 3rd. o Health care will continue to be a big issue. A coalition is being formed to study the matter. o May 11 - 12 will be large interview committee for the Uniserv Director position. o Russ Feingold is asking for consideration of reauthorization of NCLB. Suggestion: Email Feingold to thank him for his support for education! o NEA Fund for Children is looking for donations to fund political action promoting children/education. Grievance Update - Richard G. / Val G. oPower Resource Grievance - should be completed as of May when the last component is scheduled to take place. oJill gave a brief update on pending grievances. (Salary schedule placement issue and Extra-Curricular hiring issue discussed.) MOTION - Linda R. (Cindy S. seconded) to request that Val draft a letter requesting that the administration hold to hiring practices in accordance with Section 4 of the FEA Agreement. PASSED

PR Committee - Kim oLetter to the editor was published in the local paper, “The NOW”. oBRs with ideas for future editions of “What Has the FEA Done For Me Lately” should email Kim Trendel.

Old Business o School Safety - Letter to Dr. Szakacs from April 24, 2006, regarding School Safety policy concerns has gone unanswered. Richard will draft a new letter to the School Board and the Superintendent regarding these concerns.

New Business o WEAC-RA April 20 - 21, 2007 in Madison. FEA needs to fill 6 seats for the assembly. Christine B. will email all staff regarding submitting names for the ballots. This is going to be an exciting one, people! Any interested members should submit their names via email to Christine Bachofen by Tuesday, March 20th.

o NEA-RA July 2 - 5, 2007 in Philadelphia. FEA needs to fill 2 seats for the assembly. Who would not want to spend the Fourth of July in Philadelphia? Any interested members should submit their names via email to Christine Bachofen by Tuesday, March 20th.

o Electronic Grading Program Be looking for Powerschool training information to be put out by the district very soon (if you haven't already received it).

o Franklin Education Foundation Annual breakfast coming up on May 2nd.

o Medicare Part D Comparisons are available. See a BR if you have questions.

o Council 10 Event Financial planning workshop available to all members (especially useful to newer members). March 21 at the UEP office. Call Shorty at 1-262-789-6000 ext. 103 for reservations. You may also email a reservation to: otts@weac.org
