Curriculum Writing
Curriculum is created in the following manner:
1.The department Team is responsible for assessing the curriculum writing needs of the department and any particular courses. Please remember that the manager responsible for that team is part of the Team.
2. The Team makes recommendations to the Dean of that department as to what curriculum projects are needed and who on the team has the required expertise.
3. The Dean makes the final decision on the faculty member that will write the curriculum. The Dean and the faculty member then agree on specific parameters of the assignment.
Curriculum is compensated for in the following manner:
1. Curriculum time could be on a faculty member's 35 hour weekly schedule if the Dean approves in advance.
2. Restructured Days can be used.
3. A Curriculum Project that is completed outside of the normal work day. In this case the faculty member is paid a special hourly rate (currrently $41 per hour) for each course hour of instruction. For example: A 3 credit AAS degree course with 54 hours of instruction would generate a supplemental contract of 54 hours times $41 for a total additional compensation of $2214.
Important things to remember about curriculum writing:
1. Curriculum writing is voluntary.
2. Employees of the college are always given preference for any curriculum writing outside the normal work day.
3. You must be trained in the the college's approved curriculum format (currently WIDS) to qualify for a curriculm assignment.
