Betsy Kippers elected secretary-treasurer

Betsy Kippers, president of the Racine Unified School District for three years, was elected WEAC secretary-treasurer by the Board of Directors on Saturday, capturing nearly 60% of the votes.

Summer Academy combines learning, fun

The 2007 WEAC Summer Academy was held at the Holiday Inn Convention Center in Stevens Point from Sunday to Wednesday, with more than 300 in attendance. The annual event provided in-depth training in areas such as leadership, collective bargaining and professional development.

Conference committee makes progress

A conference committee has made some progress in its efforts to resolve the differences in the proposed 2007-09 state budgets forwarded by the Senate and Assembly. http://www.weac.org/capnews.htm

Law will close property tax loophole

Governor Doyle said he will sign into law a bill that fixes a business tax loophole that exempted waste treatment facilities from the property tax.

Bill sponsors Senator Dave Hansen (D-Green Bay) and Senator Robert Cowles (R-Allouez) have said that without the new law, municipalities and school districts could have lost $2 billion. http://www.weac.org/capitol/2007-08/aug07/newark.htm
