WEAC backs anti-bullying legislation
Classrooms that are safe and healthy provide the best environment for learning, WEAC argued in testimony supporting a bill to reduce bullying in schools.
WEAC submitted written testimony in favor of Senate Bill 42, which directs schools to provide instruction in anti-bullying behavior. WEAC has sought legislation to implement anti-bullying curriculum in schools as well as programs to promote peer mediation, both of which have been part of WEAC's Legislative Agenda since 2000. http://www.weac.org/Capitol/2007-08/aug07/bullying.htm

Treasuring those special moments
As a new school year is about to begin, columnist Maureen Purcell recalls how she felt at the end of last school year. "Every year that I teach, I always reach May and get the feeling that I've been cheated out of really knowing my students. I find myself saying in my head, 'What!? They're leaving in a month? But I just met them!'"
Maureen's "A supreme task" column - in which she reflects on the importance of getting to know your students and treasuring special moments - is the latest addition to the New Teachers Page. This page includes about three dozen articles by new teachers, as well as many other resources including a link to the WEAC Beginning Teachers Handbook. http://www.weac.org/newteachers |
