State educators examine Finland's model

About 30 educators and policymakers spent a spring day at the WEAC building examining an emerging model for high performance education systems across Europe, with Finland in the vanguard. International education researcher Pasi Sahlberg talked about factors that make Finland's education system one of the best in the world, and the group discussed possibilities for how Wisconsin might apply some of its characteristics. Small districts collaborate on mentoring

Five northeastern Wisconsin school districts have formed a consortium to administer the pieces of PI 34's new teacher induction puzzle, including mentoring, support seminars and other training. Read more

Teacher-to-Teacher workshops set

The U.S. Department of Education's Teacher-to-Teacher Initiative has opened registration for its free summer workshops. The workshops will be held across the country starting June 18 and will target specific grade levels and content areas.

The teacher workshops offer classroom teachers a free opportunity to participate in high-quality professional development designed to provide the classroom support, technical assistance and increased collaboration needed to assure academic success for all students. Participants will share instructional strategies with prominent teachers from around the country in each content area and for each grade level.
