Wisconsin educators are keeping a close eye on the State Capitol after the Legislative Fiscal Bureau announced Wisconsin is facing a significant budget deficit. Educators voice support for deduction

A bill that would allow educators to deduct up to $250 of non-reimbursed classroom expenses from their state income taxes drew support from teachers Tuesday. The measure mirrors an existing federal income tax deduction available to educators. Read more

Anti-bullying bill receives hearing

The State Assembly Committee on Education Tuesday held a public hearing on a bill designed to reduce bullying in schools. The bill - which requires school boards to adopt anti-bullying policies and to annually distribute the policies to students and their parents or guardians - was approved by the State Senate in November. State best in Midwest on AP exam

Wisconsin's participation in Advanced Placement (AP) testing increased across all student groups, establishing the state as the best in the 13-state Midwest Region for graduates taking an AP exam during high school.

Violence in students' lives on decline

Wisconsin students reported less violence in their lives and better mental health since the first Youth Risk Behavior Survey was administered 15 years ago. As in previous years, students who report having strong social support were less likely to engage in the risky behaviors that can endanger their health and have a negative impact on their education. The banquet honors excellence in teaching and outstanding efforts of behalf of Wisconsin public schools.
