State gets first look at 'I believe' campaign
Residents throughout Wisconsin are seeing WEAC's "I believe" media campaign on air, in print and on the Web. The campaign promotes the values, beliefs and successes of Wisconsin's public schools and affirms the value great public schools provide to the community.
The initiative also invites citizens to join in the conversation, because it will take all of us - working together - to maintain Wisconsin's proud tradition of public education excellence.
Visit OnWEAC and look for the "I believe" link at the top right of the page. The "I believe" site features a diverse group of volunteers who have stepped forward with their messages. What do you believe?
 Court deals blow to NCLB
The United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit ruled Tuesday that the Spending Clause of the Constitution is being violated by requiring states and school districts to spend their own funds to comply with the NCLB law. In the wake of this decision, the National Education Association is calling for a bold, new vision for public education. Read more

Visit the OnWEAC Members Only Presidential Primary Resource Page to read candidate responses to NEA statements about a dedicated federal funding stream to assist states and school districts.  Congratulations ticket winners!
Four WEAC members are winners of tickets to the University of Wisconsin men's basketball game against the Northwestern Wildcats January 19, 2008, at the Kohl Center in Madison. Jerry Reinardy of West High School in Wausau is the winner of two tickets for seats in section 105, row Q.
Winners of two tickets each to view the game from a luxury suite are Jim Schilling of Bluffview Intermediate School in Prairie du Chien; Ann Scharfenberg of New Richmond High School; and Keith Medema of Patrick Marsh Middle School in Sun Prairie.
The winners were randomly selected from among those who correctly answered an OnWEAC trivia question. The tickets were donated to WEAC in appreciation for our Great Schools advertising during UW basketball game broadcasts.  Awards deadline is February 1
February 1 is the deadline for applications and nominations for the WEAC Outreach and School Bell awards.
Outreach Awards honor local affiliates for distinguished efforts in public relations. School Bell Awards honor Wisconsin reporters, broadcasters, school journalism teachers and students for excellence in public education reporting.

Margaret Wepner, the family consumer science teacher at Wautoma High School, and Laura Gurske, a teacher for learning disabled students at Riverview Middle School in Barron, are the latest winners in the OnWEAC Members Only guess the score contest. The contest has wrapped up for the 2007-08 football season, with 14 WEAC members receiving the donated Packers executive sweatshirts, valued at $79.95 each. See this season's winners
 Voucher program expansion opposed
The president of the Milwaukee Teachers Education Association (MTEA) on Tuesday urged the Assembly Committee on Education Reform to oppose a bill to expand the voucher program to private high schools throughout Milwaukee County. Read more  WEAC testifies at just cause hearing
A bill to eliminate the just cause standard for the non-renewal of teachers' individual employment contracts would adversely affect public school teachers throughout the state, a WEAC negotiations specialist told the Assembly Committee on Education Reform Tuesday. You have the opportunity to be nominated by WEAC for the NEA's Foundation for the Improvement of Education (NFIE) Award for Teaching Excellence. Under this program, Wisconsin selects one nominee and submits that person's name to the NFIE. Read more |


Lifelong learning Luck teachers demonstrate their support of lifelong learning by presenting a "scholarship to the community" in the form of a $1,000 donation to the Luck Library Museum. Ringing bells The Appleton Paraprofessional Association rang bells for the Salvation Army during the holiday season as a way to give back to the community.
