Wausau teachers, ESP rally in solidarity
Members of the Wausau Education Association and Wausau Education Support Professionals protested the school board's refusal to negotiate fair contracts. The WESP has been without a contract since July 2006 and the WEA has been without a contract since July 2007. Read more
Wis. teachers $2,636 below U.S. average
Wisconsin's average public schoolteacher salary for 2005-06 was $46,390, which is $2,636 below the national average, ranking it 21st in the nation, according to the latest NEA "Rankings and Estimates" report. After adjusting for inflation, the report noted, Wisconsin's average teacher salary declined 5.5% from 1995-96 to 2005-06 while the nationwide average increased 1.3%. Read more

The WEA Trust was among four organizations, whose work statewide has made schools and students safer, to receive State Superintendent's Prevention Partner Awards during the Building the Heart of Successful Schools conference. Read more
Battle of the Bands is back
The statewide battle of the bands competition for high school students is back again! The Wisconsin Foundation for School Music (WFSM) has kicked off the fourth year of Launchpad - an alternative music competition designed to celebrate the reach of music education.
