Milwaukee teachers ratify contract

By an overwhelming margin, Milwaukee teachers voted to ratify the 2007-09 contract with the Milwaukee Public Schools school board. "From the restoration of the mentoring program, to the provisions that will make our schools safe for students, staff and families, there is much to like about this settlement," said Milwaukee Teachers' Education Association President Dennis Oulahan. Senate OKs prep time bargaining bill

The State Senate voted 18-15 along party lines to approve a bill making teacher preparation time a mandatory subject of bargaining. The bill now goes to the Assembly. The Senate also voted, 33-0, to confirm the appointment of WEAC member June Anderson of Oshkosh to the Educational Communications Board. Read more

Congratulations, John Lucht!

John Lucht, a teacher at Prairie View Elementary School in East Troy, is the winner of the latest OnWEAC trivia contest. Lucht will receive two tickets to see the Green Bay Packers take on the Minnesota Vikings on November 11 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay. Lucht's name was randomly selected from among 846 members who submitted correct answers.

Steve Fredrickson wins Packers sweatshirt

Clear Lake Education Association member Steve Fredrickson of Amery is the latest winner of a Green Bay Packers sweatshirt. Fredrickson correctly guessed the total final score of the October 29 Green Bay Packers-Denver Broncos game. 150 attend Wisconsin Way forum

Approximately 150 participants attended the Wisconsin Way community forum at Meyer Theatre in Green Bay Tuesday. The overall theme of the evening was that government is spending too much and government needs to use its resources more wisely. Read more

Positive reinforcement a valuable tool

Applying positive reinforcement to daily interactions with students can sometimes be a challenge, but Grafton 6th-grade teacher Michael Peacy is finding that it's an effective tool in the long run. Grant will help combat childhood obesity

Wisconsin was one of 15 states to receive a competitive national grant to fight childhood obesity. The state will receive $100,000 through a Healthy Kids, Healthy America award from the National Governors Association. Read more

BadgerNet to feature WisconsinEye

WisconsinEye - which provides gavel-to-gavel video coverage of state government - has reached an agreement to broadcast on the BadgerNet video network serving education and government sites throughout the state.

WisconsinEye President and CEO Chris Long said planning and installation of the required transmission equipment has already begun and WisconsinEye is expected to be available to BadgerNet Converged Network (BCN) video sites by January 15, 2008. Read more
