WEAC Winter Conference

WEAC's 2008 Winter Conference will again include a WTCS track for technical college faculty and support staff. This year's conference will be held from February 22 - 24 at the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel in Appleton, WI.

The WTCS track sessions will be held on Saturday, February 23rd.

9:00am - 10:30am
Skills 2 Compete

The Skills 2 Compete campaign is a coalition of business, labor, education and civic groups working to ensure every U.S. worker has access to the equivalent of at least two years of education or training past high school - leading to a vocational credential, industry certification, or one's first two years of college. Rachel Unruh, the campaign director, will discuss the campaign and the recent report America's Forgotten Middle Skill Jobs.

11:00am - 12:30pm
WTCS leadership panel

WTCS System President Dan Clancy, Fox Valley Technical College President David Buettner, and WTCS State Board members Mary Cuene and Allan Kehl will discuss current WTCS-related issues and answer your questions.

2:00pm - 3:30pm
Organizing part-time and adjunct employees

From part-time faculty to temporary support staff and student employees - contingent, non-permanent employees are a growing presence on technical college campuses. Joe Berry, nationally recognized part-time faculty advocate and author of Reclaiming the Ivory Tower, will discuss the growing trend of contingency in both faculty and support staff employment and organize for change.

4:00pm - 5:30pm
Protecting faculty intellectual property

Intellectual property issues are a growing concern of many in the technical colleges. James Duby, a lawyer specializing in intellectual property law, will address the topic and discuss elements of collective bargaining language that protect faculty ownership and use of their intellectual property.
