Cuene elected WTCS State Board President
Mary Cuene, an instructor at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College and WEAC member, has been elected President of the Wisconsin Technical College State Board.

Rosen (re)appointed to WTCS State Board
Governor Jim Doyle reappointed Dr. Michael Rosen to the WTCS State Board on Friday, September 1st. Rosen is an economics instructor at Milwaukee Area Technical College and president of AFT, Local 212, the union that represents MATC faculty and staff.

Gateway investigations concluded
The non-partisan Legislative Audit Bureau (LAB) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) concluded their investigations of Gateway Technical College's applied technology centers earlier this summer.
The investigations, launched in response to inquiries by Sen. Judy Robson, Sen. Bob Wirch and Rep. John Lehman, revealed a lack of public accountability and questioned the relationship between the college and its not-for-profit partners.

Update: Underprepared Learners Initiative
The technical college system is implementing a new plan to increase student preparedness.
Underprepared Learners Initiative will result in the creation of 'General College', a series of transitional credits meant to prepare students for success in associate degree-level general education courses.

Report focuses on career pathways
The Workforce Strategy Center is touting the idea of career pathways in a recent report. A career pathway is a series of interconnected educational and training programs that allow individuals to secure work with an industry and advance overtime successively higher levels of education and employment within the same industry.
The report, which cites 2-year colleges as the 'linchpin' in the career pathway strategy, is available on the Center's website.

Winter Conference
Save the date: WEAC's Winter Conference will be held on March 2-4, 2007 at the Milwaukee Hilton.
The Conference will again have a 'WTCS Track' specifically for technical college faculty and staff.
Joe Berry, a nationally know part-time faculty activist and organizer, has accepted an invitation to speak during the WTCS session.
